About Jeffrey Cusmariu

Jeffrey R. Cusmariu, MD, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electric Engineering from Union College in Schenectady, NY, and earned his medical degree at Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, NC. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the Aspen Foundation for Sports Medicine, Education, and Research in Aspen, CO.

Dr. Cusmariu is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and he also holds a subspecialty certification in Sports Medicine. Besides being a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, he is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, American Medical Association, Alabama Medical Society, and the Jefferson County Medical Society.

Dr. Cusmariu specializes in sports medicine, hip arthroscopy, general orthopaedics, and joint replacement. He has specific interest in hip arthroscopy and minimally invasive hip preservation techniques to address femoroacetabular impingement (FAI). If a patient’s arthritis has progressed beyond the point where these techniques are no longer feasible, he is also able to perform minimally invasive hip replacement. He is the first orthopedic surgeon to bring the Stryker Direct Superior Approach to Alabama.
